L’île de Saint-Barthélemy dispose d’un dispositif défensif limité mais structuré, destiné à assurer la protection de ses mouillages et à affirmer l’autorité militaire sur ce point avancé des Petites Antilles. La défense s’organise principalement autour du fort Gustave, dominant le port principal et contrôlant les approches immédiates, et du fort Oscar, position complémentaire assurant la surveillance du littoral et des zones de débarquement potentielles. Ces ouvrages, implantés sur des points hauts, privilégient l’observation, l’alerte et l’interdiction ponctuelle plutôt qu’une défense lourde et prolongée. L’ensemble reflète une organisation adaptée à la taille de l’île et à son rôle régional, intégrée à un réseau défensif antillais plus vaste centré sur les grandes places fortifiées.

Auf erhöhten Positionen angelegt, sind diese Bauwerke vor allem auf Beobachtung, Alarmierung und punktuelle Sperrwirkung ausgelegt. Das System entspricht dem Maßstab der Insel und fügt sich in das umfassendere Verteidigungsnetz der Antillen ein, das von größeren befestigten Plätzen getragen wird.

De verdediging is hoofdzakelijk opgebouwd rond Fort Gustave, dat de hoofd­haven domineert en de directe maritieme toegangen bewaakt, en Fort Oscar, dat als aanvullende post de kust en potentiële landingszones observeert. Deze op hoger gelegen punten ingeplante werken zijn vooral gericht op observatie, waarschuwing en tijdelijke toegangsontzegging. Het geheel is aangepast aan de schaal en rol van het eiland en maakt deel uit van een breder Antilliaans verdedigingskader.

Ostrov Saint-Barthélemy je chráněn omezeným, avšak jasně strukturovaným obranným uspořádáním určeným k zabezpečení kotvišť a k vojenské kontrole tohoto předsunutého bodu Malých Antil. Obrana se soustřeďuje především na pevnost Fort Gustave, ovládající hlavní přístav a bezprostřední námořní přístupy, a na pevnost Fort Oscar, která doplňuje dohled nad pobřežím a možnými výsadkovými prostory. Tyto objekty, umístěné na vyvýšených místech, jsou zaměřeny hlavně na pozorování, včasné varování a místní uzavření přístupů. Celek odpovídá významu ostrova a zapadá do širšího obranného systému Antil.
