Place de Lorient. Au centre du Blavet, peu en amont de la citadelle de Port-Louis, la petite île de Saint-Michel occupe une position clef. Au XVIIᵉ siècle, on y construisit un fort pentagonal mais dont la pointe du front de tête fut arrondie, tandis que les quatre autres saillants étaient dotés d’un bastion. Le centre du fort était occupé par une batterie en forme de demi-cercle. Un rapport du Conseil supérieur de la Guerre, datant de 1888, préconise d’armer le vieux fort Saint-Michel de 6 canons de 95 mm. Nous ignorons ce qu’il en fut, mais aujourd’hui le site, suite à l’importante occupation allemande, ne doit guère conserver de vestiges de cette époque.

Festung von Lorient. In der Mitte des Blavet, wenig oberhalb der Zitadelle von Port-Louis, nimmt die kleine Insel Saint-Michel eine Schlüsselstellung ein. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde dort ein fünfeckiges Fort erbaut, bei dem jedoch die Spitze der Kopfseite abgerundet wurde, während die vier anderen Saillants mit einem Bastion ausgestattet waren. Die Mitte des Forts wurde von einer halbkreisförmigen Batterie eingenommen. Ein Bericht des Obersten Kriegsrats aus dem Jahr 1888 empfiehlt, das alte Fort Saint-Michel mit 6 Geschützen 95 mm zu bewaffnen. Wir wissen nicht, was daraus wurde, aber heute dürfte der Ort aufgrund der starken deutschen Besatzung kaum noch Überreste aus dieser Zeit bewahren.

Vesting van Lorient. In het midden van de Blavet, iets stroomopwaarts van de citadel van Port-Louis, neemt het kleine eiland Saint-Michel een sleutelpositie in. In de 17ᵉ eeuw werd er een vijfhoekig fort gebouwd maar waarvan de punt van de kopzijde werd afgerond, terwijl de vier andere saillants waren voorzien van een bastion. Het centrum van het fort werd ingenomen door een batterij in de vorm van een halve cirkel. Een rapport van de Hoge Oorlogsraad, daterend uit 1888, beveelt aan het oude fort Saint-Michel te bewapenen met 6 kanonnen 95 mm. We weten niet wat ervan is geworden, maar vandaag de dag zal de site, na de belangrijke Duitse bezetting, nauwelijks nog sporen uit die tijd bewaren.

Fortress of Lorient. In the center of the Blavet, a short distance upstream from the citadel of Port-Louis, the small island of Saint-Michel occupies a key position. In the 17th century, a pentagonal fort was built there, but the point of the head front was rounded, while the four other salients were provided with a bastion. The center of the fort was occupied by a battery in the shape of a half-circle. A report of the Supreme War Council, dating from 1888, recommends arming the old fort Saint-Michel with 6 guns of 95 mm. We do not know what became of it, but today the site, following the significant German occupation, is unlikely to preserve many remains from that period.

Pevnost Lorient. Uprostřed řeky Blavet, nedaleko proti proudu od citadely Port-Louis, zaujímá malý ostrov Saint-Michel klíčovou pozici. V 17. století tam byla postavena pětiúhelníková pevnost, u níž však byl hrot čelního frontu zaoblen, zatímco čtyři další salienty byly opatřeny baštou. Střed pevnosti zaujímala baterie ve tvaru půlkruhu. Zpráva Nejvyšší válečné rady z roku 1888 doporučuje vyzbrojit starý fort Saint-Michel 6 děly 95 mm. Nevíme, co se stalo, ale dnes místo, po výrazné německé okupaci, pravděpodobně nezachovalo mnoho pozůstatků z té doby.
