Le système de fortification d’Alger, tel qu’il fut réorganisé et renforcé à l’époque Séré de Rivières, forma un vaste ensemble côtier et suburbain destiné à contrôler la rade, verrouiller les accès terrestres et assurer la défense rapprochée d’une capitale stratégique. Autour de la baie et sur les hauteurs se succédaient batteries de semonce, postes photo-électriques, positions de DCA et forts de tête, parmi lesquels la batterie de l’Amirauté, celle des Arcades, le Bastion 15, le fort de la Bouzaréah, les installations du Cap Caxine (batterie de semonce et poste de défense contre les sous-marins), les positions du Cap Matifou (poste photo-électrique et batterie de semonce), la batterie du Cavalier 24-1, la batterie Charles-Quint, le poste photo-électrique des Consuls, les courtines 10-11 et 12-13, les forts de l’Empereur et d’Estrées, la batterie du Fort des Anglais, les batteries du Fortin de l’Ouest et du Fortin Duperré, le poste photo-électrique d’Hussein-Dey, la batterie de la Kouba, celle du Lazaret, la batterie de DCA de Maison-Blanche, les batteries du Musoir Nord et Sud, la batterie du Petit Polygone, celle de la Prison Civile, la Salle d’Artifices, la batterie de Sidi ben Nour, les forts de Sidi Ferruch et de Temendfous, ainsi que la batterie des Tagarins. The fortification system of Algiers, as reorganized and reinforced during the Séré de Rivières era, formed a vast coastal and suburban network designed to control the roadstead, block land approaches and ensure the close defence of a strategically vital capital. Around the bay and across the surrounding heights stretched warning batteries, photo-electric stations, anti-aircraft positions and major forts, including the Amirauté battery, the Arcades battery, Bastion 15, the Fort of Bouzaréah, the installations at Cape Caxine (warning battery and anti-submarine post), the positions at Cape Matifou (photo-electric post and warning battery), the Cavalier 24-1 battery, the Charles-Quint battery, the Consuls’ photo-electric station, curtain walls 10-11 and 12-13, the forts of the Empereur and Estrées, the Fort of the Anglais battery, the batteries of the Western Fortin and Fortin Duperré, the photo-electric post of Hussein-Dey, the Kouba battery, the Lazaret battery, the Maison-Blanche AA battery, the Musoir North and South batteries, the Little Polygon battery, the Civil Prison battery, the Fireworks Hall, the Sidi ben Nour battery, the forts of Sidi Ferruch and Temendfous, as well as the Tagarins battery. Combining modern artillery, defensive lighting and interlocking fields of fire across the entire roadstead, this network illustrates the adaptation of the metropolitan system to the geographical and political realities of Algiers, ensuring maritime surveillance, coastal control and close protection within one of the most complete colonial components of the Séré de Rivières system.
